Job Description

Overview: Columbus, Ohio based Materials Science International (MSI), an ISO 9001 certified company, is a growing world class manufacturer that supports a variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, and architectural and industrial glass, among others. Manufacturing is our core business and has been since we were founded in 1981. Our 30 associates work 2 shifts at our two southwest Columbus facilities (combined 75,000 sq ft) to support our ever-growing base of customers.

Position Summary: The Engineer will support MSI manufacturing operations on 1st shift (Mon. – Fri. from 7:00 – 4:30 p.m.) Annual starting salary is between $65,000 and $85,000 depending on experience. The person we are seeking will develop and implement new manufacturing practices to advance current products. The candidate must be a driven person that is not afraid of a challenge. They must be very disciplined in documenting progress when working on a project. The candidate must be well versed in many manufacturing practices in metal forming and willing to work with others and can work independently. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a creative side and knowledge of PVD coating is a plus.

Daily Responsibilities will Include:

· Develop and implement new manufacturing practices to open or advance current product performance and quality for target products, including thermal spraying processes.

· Apply conventional current technology for monolithic targets and silver refining products using the implementation of new or advanced manufacturing processes to increase production, reduce cost, and minimize corporate risk for production.

· Responsible for metallurgical chemistry and manufacturing practices of both procured and manufactured raw materials.

· Responsible for product defect interpretation and manufacturing adjustments to correct for metals and products.

· Aware of global and domestic marketing opportunities including report strategy of the company’s competitors.

· Work with QA Manager in resolving corrective actions and preventive actions.

· Oversee lab practices and procedures.

· Develop R&D studies on existing and new products.

· Support production areas in calculating the material usage and needs to minimize raw material shortfalls.

· Work with engineering to calculate the current and advanced drawing for various target requirements.

 

 

Qualifications for Success:

· Bachelor’s degree (Chemistry or Engineering)

· Prefer at least five years of working experience

· Sputtering target product knowledge

· Solid Microsoft software skills

· Solid customer presentation skills

· Solid understanding of sputtering technology

· Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous areas

· Understanding of various alloy applications

· Ability to read blueprints

· Knowledge of OSHA safety standards

· Possess good understanding of welding techniques
