ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Staff Accountant to join our General Pet Accounting team. This position will support General Pet Accounts Receivable and Credit and will interact with various areas of the business and General Pet customers.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

• Provide resolution to account receivable issues, customer discrepancies, and short payments.
• Minimize account write-offs and maintain 96% of outstanding accounts receivable balance below 30 days past due.
• Performs initial customer setup including reviewing application, bank and credit references, D&B reports, and financial statements. Analyzes credit data and financial statements to determine degree of risk
• Support month-end journal entry and reporting.
• Support order release process for customer accounts on hold for past due payment and over their credit limit.
• Provide recommendation to management team on accounts that should be sent for outside collection.
• Lead and maintain credit policies and procedures.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES

• Handle inquiries from customers regarding statements, outstanding invoices, and balances.
• Maintain customer records, such as purchase applications and tax forms. Set up new accounts or change account information as needed.
• Kick off monthly statement process for customers.
• Keep other accounting team members up to date on accounts receivable and credit issues.
• Maintain credit information including revising credit terms and limits when appropriate.
• Work with various departments throughout the company regarding account receivable and credit related items.

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or 4 years of previous account receivable and/or credit experience.
• Strong GAAP accounting knowledge, analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience working with large customer base and in resolving disputes
• Must be tactful and diplomatic when dealing with customers.
• Possess process improvement mindset with a desire to consistently look for ways to improve efficiency and service
• Technically savvy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Work, and Outlook.
• Must have the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
• Prior experience supporting distribution business or Pet Food/Supplies industry
• Must be based in the Milwaukee, WI area
• Potential for hybrid schedule
