POSITION SUMMARY:

Logistics is a core component of D'Artagnan's success and growth. The New Jersey Logistics Manager is responsible for analyzing and improving current routes and models of transporting product on the East Coast as well as overseeing and continually improving the performance of both the New Jersey Transportation Department and the various third-party carriers used in the outlying East Coast areas.

This position has direct management responsibility six direct reports (driver team supervisor, dispatcher, safety and training manager, router and office administrator) with two dozen local route and linehaul drivers making up the driving team. Additionally, you will manage two last mile third party carriers as well as multiple cross-dock and LTL relationships. You will work closely with the National Logistics Director and Fleet and report to the VP of Operations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct management responsibility for the NJ based Logistics Organization and 3rd party delivery agents in out of town markets.
    • Provide competent management of the transportation services based out of the New Jersey Distribution Center.
      • All outbound freight to HRI and retail customers as well as select inbound freight.
      • NJ based fleet operations consisting of route delivery and line haul drivers.
    • Ensure company expectations are effectively articulated and that drivers ultimately comply with all SOP's including, but not limited to, product temperature monitoring systems, maintenance requirements, customer service expectations, safety and on-time delivery standards.
  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of transportation operations and routing involving inbound and outbound transfers of product and recommend alternative strategies to improve efficiency and economy of operations while maintaining a 95% on-time delivery rate.
    • Develop and maintain appropriate modeling tools and provide ongoing analysis to track and facilitate effective decisions.
    • Provide timely and thorough review of all logistics expenses, continually strategizing to improve costs and efficiency.
    • Champion new ideas, pilot programs, processes and ways of working to ensure the entire logistics operations on the East Coast is better today than it was yesterday.
  • Ensure stellar communication between the department and all internal and external customers with timely and effective problem resolution as appropriate.

TECHNICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Minimum 3 years direct management: Acquired in a similar role in a fast-paced moving and growing company.
  • Proven experience implementing logistics processes and procedures and a solid understanding of information technology and systems
    • Sound working knowledge of strategic logistics planning principles, and end to end supply chains.
      • Supply chain principles and best practices
      • Logistics process and cost structures
      • DOT and FSCMA regulations
    • Strong knowledge of, and ability to source, refrigerated transport service providers
    • Strong competency in Microsoft Excel, data base tools, and associated modeling tools

Desired:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of MRP and / or Roadnet system
  • Warehouse/Logistics experience in the perishable food sector
