Job Description

Environmental Engineering firm with immediate openings for an Engineer in our Springfield, Illinois offices. This is an opportunity for a licensed engineer (PE) or individual having passed the fundamentals of engineering exam (FE) and pursuing their professional engineer license.

Our services include civil, geotechnical engineering, construction quality assurance (CQA), environmental investigation, remediation planning, field remediation and preparing permit applications. Our work requires attention to the details to produce accurate documentation and successful completion of client projects.

Position Duties

· Provide support for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Tasks include, but are not limited to: conceptual site layout, site grading design; storm drain design; storm water management design; soil erosion and sedimentation control design; floodplain studies; permitting; zoning and field construction support.

· Field and office support of site investigations including soil, sediment, and groundwater characterization and sampling; drilling oversight, monitoring systems, field surveying and construction quality assurance.

· Preparing technical reports, work plans, feasibility studies, project specifications, permit applications, and technical memoranda

· Project management or assist project managers with planning environmental investigation and remediation tasks and preparing subcontracts, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, and proposals

· Assist with design calculations for the selection of treatment technologies and process design drawings for groundwater, industrial, water, and wastewater.

· Interpretation and evaluation of field and analytical data to prepare engineering designs, permit applications, and construction-related documents

· Assisting with or preparing mathematical calculations for environmental evaluations relating to permit compliance or remediation planning.

· Both positions require occasional overnight stay near project site.

 

Responsibilities

Applicant should hold a BS or MS in Civil/Environmental Engineering and have an IL Professional Engineering license.

Apply engineering and scientific principles and concepts to area of specialization and training.

Critical thinking abilities for analysis and ability to interact with coworkers.

Conducting project related research (e.g., historic data, regulations).

Data management (e.g., compilation, manipulation, and evaluation of data).

Gains understanding of municipal, state and federal laws, regulations, policies and guidance.

Contacting regulatory and municipal agencies and subcontractors/vendors to coordinate field activities and obtain project-related information

Writing and preparation of permit applications, reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda.

Working with technicians trained in the use of AutoCAD applications to prepare project drawings and other graphics.

Preparing cost estimates, conducting alternatives analysis.

Establishing and maintaining client relationships.

Ensuring applicable design standards and specifications for assigned projects are adhered to for providing accurate and quality work products.

Oversight of field remediation and related construction activities such as CQA, and coordination of subcontractors.

Soil, sediment, and groundwater sampling per EPA Methods.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering, Civil or Environmental Engineering.

· Professional license (EIT/FE or PE)

Preferred Qualifications

· OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hr / 8 hr refresher training

· Valid Driver's license required

· Strong experience working with MS Office Software

· Experience within the solid waste industry a plus.
