Position Overview

The Mechanical Designer II will apply their professional and technical expertise to designing

mechanical engineering concepts and options that align with the vision for each project. This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents involved.

 

Responsibilities

  •          Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the mechanical engineering designs, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, or other                 mechanical systems

  •          Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes and specifications, and verify code compliance of the system designs

  •          Preparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development             phase, permitting phase and construction documents phase

  •          Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review and preparation of punch lists

  •          Define appropriate project scope and ensure it is accurately reflected in the contract documents. Proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client                satisfaction and that projects stay on track

  •          Prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications

  •          Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials           regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items

  •          Support with mentoring more inexperienced mechanical designers

  •          Miscellaneous duties, as assigned

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  •          Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and based in Tampa, FL, or Atlanta, GA
  •          Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  •          Revit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs
  •          At least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design of commercial buildings preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or                 governmental facilities
  •          Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT), preferred
  •          At least 2 years of experience coordinating with multi-discipline engineering teams
  •          Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods
  •          Knowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineering
  •          Highly proficient technical/computer skills, including Microsoft O365 and web applications
  •          Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written or in graphic form
  •          Must have the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively evaluate various mechanical engineering options for configuration of equipment and components
  •          Experience with cost containment and reduction approaches

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the necessary job-related functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  •          Travel up to 20% for site investigations and assessments, or client meetings
  •          Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods
  •          Work extended hours, evenings and weekends when necessary to meet business deadlines
  •          Regular use of office equipment such as a computer/laptop and computer screens
  •          Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components
  •          Ability to see differences between colors, shades and brightness
  •          Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  •          May occasionally be exposed to the following work conditions: work near/with moving mechanical parts; work near/with electrical currents; work in high places or underground; be     exposed to fumes/airborne particles or caustic chemicals; withstand outdoor weather conditions; withstand moderate to very loud noises
