Position Overview

 

The Sr. Technology Systems Designer will apply their professional and technical expertise and knowledge of codes and standards to design functional, interactive, and integrated technical systems for new and existing construction. Demonstrated knowledge of Information Communications Technology (ICT) / Low-Voltage Design to execute various system deliverables such as fire alarms, video walls, access control, security, audio visual (A/V), intercom/paging, CCTV, biometrics, etc.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the technology and communication designs based on the interpretation of blueprints and specifications of contract documents
  • Use design software such as Revit/AutoCAD to create bid and construction documents and specifications for a project
  • Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications
  • Estimating and negotiating for contract/fee negotiations
  • Verify (NFPA, BICSI, Infocomm) standards and code compliance of the system designs
  • Preparation and layout of BIM drawings of complex equipment and raceway in coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design, design development, permitting, and construction documents phases
  • Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, studies, quality control and shop drawing reviews, and preparation of punch lists on multiple projects

 

  • Field inspections and analysis to upgrade and correct existing system problems

 

  • Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items

 

  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned

Job Requirements

Qualifications

· Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States based in Atlanta, Georgia; or Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston or Austin, Texas

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Information Communications Technology (ICT) Design and industry-related programs, apprenticeships desired
  • Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) BICSI Certification required
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as a technology and low-voltage systems designer of commercial buildings preferably in aviation, data centers, entertainment, hospitality, schools, or governmental facilities
  • Minimum 4 years of experience coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams
  • Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods
  • Knowledge of NFPA, BICSI, Infocomm codes and standards
  • Revit MEP and AutoCAD proficiency required; familiarity with other engineering software programs
  • Highly proficient technical/computer skills including Bluebeam, Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Work, Excel), internet and web applications, etc.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic form
  • Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications
  • Experienced with cost containment and reduction approaches

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the necessary job-related functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Travel occasionally, up to 10-15%, for site investigations and assessments, or client meetings

  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods
  • Work extended hours, evenings and weekends when necessary to meet business deadlines
  • Regular use of office equipment such as a computer/laptop and computer screens
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components
  • Ability to see differences between colors, shades and brightness
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  • May occasionally be exposed to the following work conditions: work near/with moving mechanical parts; work near/with electrical currents; work in high places or underground; be exposed to fumes/airborne particles or caustic chemicals; withstand outdoor weather conditions; withstand moderate to very loud noises
