Key Responsibilities
The Smithsonian Institution's Office of Advancement seeks a Digital Systems Manager to serve as a key member of the Advancement Technology Services team as we transform our digital constituent engagement and fundraising approach. The digital systems manager works with both the Systems Management and the Constituent Engagement teams in developing and supporting high-quality, secure systems and connected digital solutions.

The Digital Systems Manager:
  • Manages system operations for Office of Advancement digital engagement and fundraising tools.
  • Researches and advises on modern approaches to technology, data, services, and strategies that support constituent engagement, membership, and communications goals.
  • Partners with institution-wide teams in designing and implementing new digital engagement and fundraising toolsets based in the Salesforce platform.
  • Contributes to collaborative annual planning with partner business and technical teams - advocating for key operations maintenance needs and highlighting opportunities to streamline operations and expand capabilities to meet business goals.
  • Manages compliance (security, privacy, PCI, etc.) for current solutions, and advises on key considerations for technologies and services under consideration.
  • Manages relationships with tools and systems vendors including articulating requirements and enhancement requests, reporting/escalating issues, contract management, budgeting, user renewals, etc.
  • Develops and manages data flows/integrations and automations that support reliable and secure connections between key systems, adhere to data management, security, and privacy standards, and enable reporting/analytics.
  • Tests and promotes changes between non-production and production environments both independently, and with team members.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders (internal technical and business teams) to understand processes and data needs.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots solutions - correcting failures, security, and performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Creates and manages incident reports as they pertain to digital engagement solutions.
  • Provides advanced technical support for production solutions and dataflows.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Successful candidates will have:
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing digital engagement and fundraising systems as shared resource.
  • Demonstrated expertise supporting business operations with reliable platforms in a low-change state while developing replacement systems.
  • Experience with CRM tools and platforms related to digital communications, email marketing, and event management, including: Blackbaud Luminate Online, MailChimp, Payflow Pro, SendGrid, Swoogo, etc.
  • Experience with Salesforce, especially Marketing Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Commerce Cloud - Certification preferred. Experience with Nonprofit Cloud and/or Nonprofit Success Pack a plus.
  • Experience with one or more of the following data management and orchestration technologies - Azure Data Factory, SSIS, AWS Glue, Airflow, JSON, and APIs.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language for data flow management and segmentation (e.g., SQL, Python, JavaScript and/or Apex).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience creating procedural and audit documentation.
  • Strong communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to build relationships in a hybrid setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and drive assigned tasks to successful completion.
  • Curious, creative, and collaborative approach to challenges.
