The campaign will provide a foundation for critical research to ensure people and nature thrive together, build unparalleled education programs with families and partners, collect the world's most precious objects, document the present while reflecting on the past, and reimagine the visitor experience both in-person and online. We will bring the Smithsonian off the National Mall and across the country through dynamic programming and affiliate partnerships, creating access for all. The Smithsonian is also developing two new museums. The National Museum of the American Latino and the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum share the experiences and perspectives of Latinos and women across history and deepen our shared understanding of what it means to be an American.

The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central advancement organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of Smithsonian initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support services to advancement offices across the Institution. The office engages with staff throughout the Smithsonian in accomplishing their goals.

Key Responsibilities
The Smithsonian Office of Advancement seeks an experienced candidate to fill the position of Campaign Operations Manager. This position is on the Constituent Engagement team in the Office of Advancement, reporting to the Constituent Engagement Director and working closely with the Assistant Secretary for Advancement (ASA) and the Associate Director for Advancement/Liaison to the Office of the Secretary (ADA). The individual in this position is a pivotal member of the campaign planning team and is responsible for managing overall constituent engagement and campaign operations and projects. The responsibilities associated with this position have a significant impact on the campaign both in the Office of Advancement and across all units.

The incumbent works with the Constituent Engagement director and team leads to ensure efficient team operations, creating and maintaining an overall project calendar for the Constituent Engagement team and ensuring coordination among senior managers on an ongoing basis about timing of major projects and deliverables. The incumbent monitors the overall budgets for the Constituent Engagement team, including the team's campaign spending, and works closely with the Constituent Engagement Director on forecasting and trends. This position supervises one staff member. The incumbent also serves as the primary point of contact for internal audiences and campaign consultants regarding projects and strategic initiatives related to the campaign and communicates in person, in writing and over the phone with colleagues to ensure that they have all information required and are as engaged as possible in the campaign plans. The Campaign Operations Manager works with the Assistant Secretary for Advancement's office, drafting and/or finalizing presentations, agendas, and materials for campaign meetings with Smithsonian leadership and external stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Successful candidates will have:
  • Experience in an advancement office preferred, including familiarity with database management, prospect management, fundraising pipeline management and capital campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing a multi-year departmental budget, including addressing fluctuating needs throughout the fiscal year.
  • Experience in managing diverse revenue streams such as those from gifts and revenue generating activities ensuring compliance with all accounting procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and adhering to complex procurement procedures.
  • Experience in managing staff preferred.
  • Skill in written and oral communications.
