Service Advisor Job Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and establish rapport to understand their service needs.
  • Schedule service appointments and coordinate with the service department.
  • Advise customers on necessary/suggested services and maintenance based on vehicle inspection and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Provide customers with detailed explanations of the service work to be performed, along with the costs and time estimates.
  • Document services requested by the customer and prepare detailed work orders for the service department.
  • Monitor the progress of vehicle repairs and services to ensure timely completion.
  • Update customers on the status of their vehicle, including any changes in service or repair timelines.
  • Promote and sell additional services and products, aligning with customer needs and vehicle maintenance schedules.
  • Process customer payments and manage billing and invoicing for services rendered.
  • Follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction with service work and to address any concerns or issues.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of automotive products, services, and the latest industry trends.
  • Manage service records and customer history in an organized and confidential manner.
  • Work closely with service technicians and parts department to ensure proper stock levels and availability of frequently used parts.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally and resolve them to encourage repeat business.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with service techniques and customer service best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Service Advisor or similar role in the automotive industry
  • Knowledge of automotive service and repair procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues to customers in an understandable manner
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to handle customer queries and complaints effectively
  • Proficiency in service advisor software and tools as well as MS Office or equivalent
  • Familiarity with automotive parts and inventory management
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in mechanical or automotive services is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing education and training to keep skills current
  • Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays as required
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and provide a positive company image
