Staff Accountant

Green Garden Products, a subsidiary of Central Garden & Pet, the number one supplier of top-quality flower seeds and non-GMO vegetable seeds for the gardening industry, has an opening for a Staff Accountant on the Finance and Accounting team based on-site in our Norton, MA facility. This is an Exempt, full-time position. This position will have responsibilities over general ledger accounting, monthly closing and reporting, balance sheet review and reconciliation, and maintaining the internal control structure in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).

Measures of Success:

• Perform monthly closing activities, including analysis of accounts and preparation of journal entries
• Prepare and review account reconciliations and complete analytical reviews of balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure the accuracy and validity of transactions
• Provide support and guidance to the operations and finance teams to identify and recommend cost savings or improvements
• Prepare special projects as requested by management
• Provide support in both the external and SOX audits
• Play a key role with establishing, implementing, and documenting accounting policies and procedures
• Assist in the preparation of 10Q and 10K schedules
• Other duties as required to assist the department needs

Ideal Candidate Attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA or CMA a plus
• 1+ years’ experience; manufacturing industry or CPG company a plus
• P roficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (Pivot tables and VLOOKUP’s), SAP or comparable ERP system strongly preferred, Hyperion a plus
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to handle a variety of tasks as well as problem solve with the ability to work independently
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• High customer service orientation
• Continuous improvement mindset
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
• Other duties as assigned to assist business needs
