Reporting to the Senior Packaging Engineer, the Packaging Engineer II will be responsible for developing and executing product containment that meets our product manufacturing specifications. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to optimize the packaging processes and create packaging that meets functional as well as innovative packaging goals. Innovation, compatibility with manufacturing, and efficiency are prime objectives.
This position requires candidates to report on-site to our Neptune City, NJ facility 4x a week with 1 WFH day.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
- Oversees company-wide consumer products’ packaging development for all brands, including innovation and sustainability initiatives.
- Projects will consist of modifications of current packaging for existing products as well as innovative new packaging solutions for products.
- Project deliverables need to ensure that quality and consumer expectations are met while working with Manufacturing and vendors to find economical solutions.
- Packaging project development using various materials: fiberboard, corrugated, flexible films, rigid plastic.
- Analyze packaging portfolio for harmonization and simplification of packaging components both structural and dimensional.
- Create a specification process for ease of future development and QA checks.
- Background with various materials: fiberboard, corrugated, flexible films, and rigid plastic is a must.
- Troubleshoot problem designs, materials, and processes.
- Design new packaging for specific customer requirements ie die line, structure, and size.
- Work closely with marketing, creative, suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
- This individual will be representing the department in cross-functional team meetings.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
- Approval via sign-off of all packaging structural designs before production.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Engineering is preferred.
- Must have 3 years of experience working for consumer-packaged goods companies in similar positions.
- A background in science is a plus, but not required.
- Experience in both food and non-food categories is a plus.
- Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards, drafting, and specification standards are essential.
- Demonstrable proficiency in ArtiosCAD software is needed.
- Understanding of process improvement, and total quality improvement concepts.
- This position requires up to 10% travel outside the local area and overnight.
- Ability to effectively work in conjunction with Creative, Marketing, Sales, and Manufacturing.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Team player with good communication and project management skills.
