Forklift Operator

Summary:

The Forklift Operator is responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting items in the warehouse.

Measures of Success

• Loads and unloads warehouse items.

• Optimizes load to ensure operational efficiency.

• Secures load to machine before transportation.

• Transports materials to different locations within the facility.

• Organizes and secures materials, such as boxes, bales, pallets, and super stacks in a safe way.

• Shrink wraps pallets to prepare them for shipping.

• Weighs products and/or loads and record weight.

• Inspects for damage to vehicles, identifies necessary maintenance and repairs.

• Reports any faulty equipment, damage to racks, or other potential safety hazards.

• Maintains equipment by cleaning, oiling, recharging, refueling, etc.

• Becomes certified and attends certification refresher courses.

• Analyzes production schedules to determine movement, deliveries, and material requirements.

• Consults and coordinates with manager, employees, other departments, and equipment manufacturers regarding loading and unloading operations.

• Rotates stock so oldest products are first picked.

• Is alert of other employees in the work zone.

• Reports quality variances to the proper channels.

• Uses radio frequency equipment as needed for picking, put-away, receiving, and load functions.

• Keeps area clean, safe, and up to code.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to sit, stand and /or walk for up to 3 hours at a time in an 8-hour day; ability to frequently grasp, push, pull, bend and climb.

Ideal Candidate Attributes:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification required.

• 1+ years previous forklift operation or similar relevant experience preferred.

• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

• Proficiency operating machinery, radios, and scanners.

• Attention to detail.

• Excellent coordination.

• Observes safety and security procedures.

• Meets attendance requirements and is on time.

Individuals with some of the experience and/or knowledge can be trained on the job to perform each essential duty successfully.

Work Environment:

• Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, product irritants, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.

• Occasionally required to work in high places and confined spaces.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. But higher levels of noise are marked by signs.

Work Schedule and Compensation:

• First shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Night shift: Monday - Thursday 8:30 pm - 7:00 am

• Occasional overtime.

• $15.50 - $20.50 depending on skills and experience.
