The Assistant General Manager will be responsible for working with our production team to ensure production schedules and metrics are achieved. This key role will also work in conjunction with our growing teams to help oversee timeliness of workorders, start and finish dates of crops and proper specifications are met. This includes, but is not limited to, quality crop production that align with pre-determined targets, managing production labor and oversee the overall administration of a large-scale production farm. Our Assistant General Managers typically have experience in agricultural leadership.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Maintaining weekly inventory /availability and counts
- Oversight of all departments to encourage a clean safe environment
- Scheduling and managing crews
- Monitoring of product finish dates
- Coordination with growing teams to hit established targets
- Interaction and organization of shipping crews to ensure metrics are met and daily expectations are achieved
- Quality control of production and shipping
- Managing of workflow between departments – adjusted scheduled workers as needed
- Working with management teams on talent planning and work schedules to meet assigned budgets
- Ensure consistent availability of hard goods and inventory required to achieve targets
- Ensure OSHA compliance at location(s) managed
- Ensure safety and relevant training is executed
- Crop record keeping
Skills & Competencies
- Critical that this employee be a world-class communicator
- Proven ability to recognize issues affecting yield and quickly identify solutions
- Ability to work with and lead a team of skilled agricultural workers
- Proven ability to identify efficiencies and resource-saving solutions
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation and facilitation skills
• Bilingual skill set in English and Spanish helpful but not required
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products (Outlook, Excel, Work, PPT)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or Argricultural Business or equivalent experience
- Minimum work experience in construction, project management, or supervisory roll of 2 years Minimum five years of hands-on experience in greenhouse and field growing in a leadership/decision making capacity
- Candidate must be able to work weekends as appropriate
- Must be self-motivated
- Must have proven leadership skills
- Ability to respond to emergencies off-hours
Working Conditions
- Distribution center and greenhouses requiring the ability to sit, stand and walk as needed to interact with employee and managers
- Office with weekly outside and inside greenhouse walking required.
