We’re looking for a Vice President, Corporate Development to lead Central’s overall Corporate Development function. Corporate Development is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and executing M&A and venture investment opportunities across the garden and pet categories. As the leader of the team, this person will collaborate with Central’s senior executives and business leaders on Central’s inorganic growth strategy. This leader will identify and propose M&A ideas, and work with business teams to evaluate potential targets.

This role requires someone who is self-motivated, combining strategic thinking, executive influence, communication skills, sound business judgment, expert quantitative skills, and ability to dig into the details and execute the work.

The Vice President, Corporate Development and their team will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, structuring, and executing impactful acquisitions, as well as accelerating the company's strategy by identifying industry trends and maintaining external relationships.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • Drive M&A and investment opportunities by leading all stages of the M&A process, including opportunity targeting and evaluation cultivation, negotiation, and due diligence, including financial modeling and valuation
  • Drive inorganic growth activities by leading all stages of the M&A process, including opportunity targeting and evaluation cultivation, due diligence, deal execution
  • Explore and drive other business development opportunities including leading venture investments and exploring other partnerships, joint ventures, etc.
  • Work closely with business leaders on pipeline development, including identifying current product adjacencies evaluating build/buy/partner options
  • Partner with business unit leaders and lead discussions with leadership to drive decisions

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
• At least 10+ years’ experience in M&A transactions, valuation, due diligence, post-merger integration, and divestitures at an investment bank, private equity firm, or with corporate development / M&A within an operating company
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA strongly preferred
• Ability to manage multiple simultaneous high-priority projects (including project management of cross-functional teams)
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with exceptional ability to create structured quantitative and qualitative analyses
• Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to formulate and deliver insights around complex business problems in a thoughtful and persuasive manner
• A proven track record of leading the pursuit and successful conclusion of domestic transactions
• Keen ability to think deeply and quantitatively about business problems, breaking down problems and presenting solutions while evaluating the pros and cons of each option
• Exceptional analytical and strategic orientation – demonstrated experience building complex financial models, performing financial analysis, assimilating multiple datapoints and quickly developing data-driven solutions
• A demonstrated ability to work with and influence senior executives in an entrepreneurial environment
• Strong executive maturity with the confidence to advocate a point of view but with an in-check ego to foster open communications and development
