Central Home Brands, a business unit of Central Garden & Pet, is seeking an Accounting Clerk to join our team in Bingham Farms, MI. The Accounting Clerk will ensure timely processing of both internal and external customer payments.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • Works high-volume payment applications
  • Create residuals (deductions) for credits taken by customers on a payment
  • Ensure that payment batches match with bank reports daily
  • Works in close coordination with others in Accounts Receivable department to inform on payments and deductions
  • Process manual credit card transactions as needed for open invoices and customer prepayments.
  • Process both paper check payments and Electronic Funds Transfer payments for customers daily
  • Access bank websites daily to complete cash application.
  • Pull check copies each day, image the checks and save on our shared drive as the checks are applied
  • Interact with customers on a regular basis as it pertains to our credit card payment processes
  • Work with auditors (both internal and external) to pull requests as needed to provide requested information
  • Performs other tasks to support the Invoice to Cash (ITC) and Accounts Receivable

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
  • Minimum 2-year degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years corporate cash application experience
  • Experience working with enterprise systems such as SAP, Oracle, etc.
  • Understanding of internal controls including SOX requirements for Accounting Clerk
  • Consumer Products experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable with SAP strongly preferred
  • Looking for someone who is self-motivated and is a self-starter
  • Ability to partner with management and provide input into process improvement as well as effective execution and change management within the team
  • Works well in an environment with firm deadlines; results-oriented
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Possess process improvement mindset with a desire to consistently look for ways to improve efficiency and service
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Perform multiple tasks effectively
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Other – candidate should have the highest integrity and character and possess finance experience and business sense.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Team works a hybrid schedule, part of the time from their home office and part of the time from our office in Bingham Farms.
