Our Garden Segment is searching for a Controls Formulator to work at our research facility in Albany, OR. This position will be responsible for the control experimentations, trials, formulation and new product development, which includes fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides and weed control products. This individual will have the opportunity to undertake numerous trials, processes and validation projects, such as growth trials, Phyto trials, efficacy, and soil improvement trials.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • Responsible for project-related scientific/technical activities (e.g., interpreting results, critical assessment of data, drawing relevant conclusions, and writing reports)
  • Conducts scientific trials to validate and create prototype products
  • Produces product samples for test trials, stability validation and package storage
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and verifying product quality
  • Develops formulations for new products and enhances the functionality of existing products to scale
  • Interacts with raw material manufacturers, suppliers and other vendors as needed
  • Works proactively with other cross-functional groups to execute change controls associated with Manufacturing and Packaging master records, SOPs and protocols
  • Researches and validates raw material for pre-formulation assessment to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements
  • Creates and reviews applicable SOPs, as well as reviews appropriate documentation and test results for accuracy and completeness and compliance reviews and verifies batch records, process characterization reports and investigation reports
  • Works collaboratively with other team members to accomplish project goals and milestones


IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry or related field;
  • 5+ years’ experience in a bench formulation chemistry position; experience in pesticide formulation a plus
  • Previous work experience within plant research or similar types of research is required
  • Previous work with material science/packaging/delivery systems is highly preferred
  • Strong background in chemistry and analytical methods
  • Experience with a variety of analytical techniques, method development and validation for chemical pesticides as well as organic products
  • Previous experience in field or greenhouse work is a plus
  • Advanced reading skills are required to maintain a high level of accuracy in record-keeping and analysis; must excel in managing details and be able to multi-task; strong understanding of statistics
  • Ability to bend and lift throughout the course of a normal workday; continuous bending/lifting during greenhouse and outdoor research plot projects; operate greenhouse and laboratory equipment
  • Works well with others in teams. Must be responsible, reliable and dependable in work habits and personal work ethic
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft (word and excel), highly proficient in PowerPoint
  • Strong presentation skills to different levels of audiences is required
  • Basic EPA pesticide regulatory knowledge required
  • Willing to travel to offsite trial locations, professional meetings and technical conferences
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
