Central Garden & Pet, based in Walnut Creek, CA, is a top employer in the East Bay and we are adding aPayroll Administratorto our Walnut Creek Payroll Team. ThePayroll Administratoris responsible for processing payroll for employees in multi-state locations and across a variety of our business units using Dayforce HCM and has the ability to work 1-2 days per week from home if desired. The ideal candidate is experienced in processing multi-state payroll in Dayforce or other platforms and is able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, be extremely detail-oriented, and be able to communicate and collaborate effectively with various business units and departments. Candidates with payroll processing experience with other systems will also be considered. Our Walnut Creek office is located one block from the Pleasant Hill Bart Station and within walking distance to restaurants, shops, Bay Club, and the Iron Horse Trail. Employees are also provided with free parking and a free on-site fitness center, along with pet product discounts.This is a hybrid position, with the option to work from home 1-2 days per week.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • Accurate processing of US weekly, biweekly, and monthly payrolls using Dayforce HCM
  • Analyze, prepare, and input payroll data using automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll
  • Prepare and process a wide variety of time sensitive personnel action forms containing confidential information
  • Maintain appropriate records, files, documentation, per policy and legal guidelines.
  • Work closely with business partners in resolving issues related to HR, employee benefits, and payroll taxes
  • Support the quarterly and annual audits (external and internal) of financial statements as it pertains to payroll.
  • Work on special projects when assigned.
  • Audit payroll time sheets for accuracy and resolve any issues or discrepancies
  • Prepare and issue manual checks as needed for terminations, bonuses, and lost checks
  • Process wage garnishments and respond to corresponding agencies
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
  • Investigate and resolve any issues, questions, discrepancies in paychecks
  • Download and review payroll GL journal entries before loading into ERP system
  • Reconcile payroll data prior to final transmission and processing
  • Respond to various internal and external inquiries in a timely and professional manner while providing great customer service
  • Government entity reporting

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
  • Associate or Bachelor degree preferred and/or 5 years of experience processing payroll, including multi-state payroll.
  • Strong working understanding of Ceridian Dayforce HCM, or similar platforms like Ceridian, ADP Workforce Now, UKG, Ultipro.
  • Advanced level experience with Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook. Excel experience including use of pivot tables, filters.
  • Research and resolve issues, unexpected results, or process flaws; recommend process/customer service improvements or alternate methods to meet requirements.
  • Attention to detail is needed to support different technologies and understanding data
  • A self-starter who desires to show ownership and commitment to the job.
  • Experience balancing a dynamic workload with constantly changing priorities, deadlines, and project scopes.
  • Must be able to handle highly confidential information/data appropriately.
  • Must be accurate, detail oriented, reliable and a problem solver.
  • Must be deadline driven and have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently with little supervision.
  • Accustomed to working with all levels of executives, hourly/salary and field personnel.
  • Team player, approachable, but able to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to take initiative, be motivated to achieve high performance standards, and be accountable for meeting performance standards.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in a cooperative, collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safemanner.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Hybrid office environment, with option of 1-2 days working from home, frequent use of PC and phone.
  • Salary is $27 to $35 per hour.
