SUMMARY

We are seeking an enthusiastic, persuasive, and inspiring Content Writer & Storyteller to join CIIS' Office of Strategic Communications & Relations. You will be responsible for collaborating with internal and external constituents to develop, research, write, and edit a variety of communication materials, including for the University website, stories, features, profiles, brochures, email campaigns, advertising/marketing materials, newsletters, handbooks, social media platforms, campus-wide messaging, University blogs and publications, and other print and digital entities as needed.

Specific duties include:

  • Developing and researching ideas for written publication/communication on high visibility and complex topics.
  • Articulating goals and vision in a way that is understandable to various audiences.
  • Identifying key information, messages, and topics clearly and credibly.
  • Developing supplemental materials to support written communication.
  • Maintaining contacts with key sources to identify story themes and events for promotion.
  • Managing complex writing projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Sourcing, researching, writing, and editing communications, publications, or reports.
  • Appealing to audiences that are both broad and specialized.
  • Executing communication strategies that will best serve the University.
  • Editing all elements for style, substance and organization.
  • Organizing text so that it's consistent in tone, format, grammar, and message.
  • Copy editing, fact checking, and quality assurance.
  • Providing text development and maintaining web pages and/or other forms of electronic communication.
  • Assisting the Media Relations groups with developing and writing timely features, op-ed pieces, letters to the editor, and other University content.
  • Ensuring standards for content are consistent and well-documented.
  • Maintaining the consistency of the University brand across all visual communications.
  • Collaborating with University departments and offices on assignments as needed.



Job Requirements:

Qualifications - What We're Looking For:

Education / Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or related field, and/or relevant experience.
  • Solid marketing writing experience (digital and email campaigns a plus).
  • Preference for higher education (or education generally), or nonprofit background.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems is a plus.
  • Proven experience writing for publication.

Skills

  • Master storyteller, with hearts and smarts.
  • Solid command of editorial, grammatical, writing skills and techniques and style guides (AP, APA, Chicago).
  • Demonstrated creative thinker in developing editorial content and solutions to marketing and communication challenges.
  • Self-starter, with a can-do, positive, collaborative attitude, who is organized and detail-oriented with superb planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent at prioritizing, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Superb interpersonal skills - you excel at working alone and as part of a larger team.
  • Ability to interview faculty, students, alumni, staff, and administration in a professional manner.
  • Exercise excellent judgment; is diplomatic and tactful.
  • Shows discretion and confidentiality.
  • Good sense of humor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The incumbent exercises expertise in related health, wellbeing, consciousness, spirituality subjects and an understanding of the audience.

Additional Information:

WAGES AND BENEFITS

$62,000 to $70,000 (depending on experience and location). CCIS offers a comprehensive benefits package.

  • Working Conditions - Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.
  • Background Check - Due to the sensitivity and requirements of this position, you should expect to undergo and be cleared of an employment background/criminal check, if extended an offer for employment. You may also be asked to provide proof of educational degree(s), licenses, or credentials pertinent to the position. If your job requires driving on behalf of CIIS you will be required to provide proof of a valid driver's license.
