Job Description

Latino Economic Development Center 

The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a non-profit, tax-exempt community development organization founded in 1991. LEDC’s mission is to drive the economic and social advancement of low- to moderate-income Latinos and other underserved communities by equipping them with the skills and tools to achieve financial independence and become leaders in their communities. We achieve our mission through small business development and lending, homeownership group education and individual counseling, and affordable housing preservation.

 

Position Summary

As part of our strategic growth, we are establishing a new department focused on Financial Empowerment, with the goal of providing comprehensive support and resources to enhance financial capability and workforce development opportunities for our clients. The Financial Empowerment Coordinator will work alongside the Financial Empowerment Program Manager in the establishment and expansion of the Financial Empowerment Department. This role involves developing and implementing innovative programs, initiatives, and partnerships that equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Additionally, this position with be central to the establishing the Financial Empowerment Center in Montogomery County through a partnership with United Way. Specifically, the Financial Empowerment Program Coordinator has the following responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities

·       Coordination and quality control of the in-person and virtual financial education programs.

·       Recruit participants for cohort based, one on one sessions, and webinars in all markets - The District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

·       Conduct in-person and virtual group workshops and presentations.

·       Develop, update, and oversee curriculum for in-person and virtual courses. 

·       Conduct community outreach.

·       Collaborate with the Small Business Department and Housing Department in streamlining and improving financial education at LEDC.

·       Document and track data related to services rendered using applicable tools. Provide data quality control. 

·       Work with the Financial Empowerment Manager to prepare and submit timely reports to funders on program specific activities. 

·       Maintain and create external relationships with community stakeholders.

·       Provide information on LEDC services and referrals to community partners. 

·       Increase awareness of LEDC’s services in the community by participating in virtual and in-person outreach events.

·       Provide assistance to walk-ins as needed.

·       Provide technical assistance related to housing counseling such as documenting attendees’ participation in classes, creating certificates, tracking paperwork for first-time homebuyer programs or foreclosure prevention. 

·       Attending training as needed.

·       Other duties as assigned are to ensure the quantity and quality of services provided by the organization.   

Minimum Qualifications

·       Excellent written and verbal communications skills required

·       Effective and motivational manager of diverse and dispersed teams

·       Strong understanding of financial capability education, workforce development, and poverty alleviation strategies.  

·       Innovative and creative problem-solving mindset;

·       Capable of coordinating across various internal departments;

·       Bilingual (English/Spanish), and culturally sensitive required;

 

Preferred Qualifications

·       Bachelor degree in business-related filed such as finance, marketing, business management;

·       Proven experience in program development, nonprofit management, or a related field

·       MA/MBA degree in business-related field

·       Proven fundraiser, ideally bringing your own set of funder contacts;

·       At least five years of financial capability education, workforce development, and poverty alleviation strategies.  

·       Flexible work schedule, including the ability to work Saturdays and some evenings.

 

This role is a full-time, 40 hours/week position that requires Saturday hours and some evenings.
