Title: Recovery Specialist

Reports to: Risk Manager

Supervises: None

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Objective:

The Recovery Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing and carrying out the collection activities associated with delinquent account identification and resolution. The Recovery Specialist uses knowledge of collection policies and procedures to review individual delinquent credit accounts, determines probable reasons for account status, contacts Members to resolve the delinquency and favorably maintains the Credit Union image.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct collection activities.

  • Make recommendations for action on problem accounts. Perform all necessary steps to complete approved action on problem accounts.

  • Review and analyze delinquent reports.

  • Coordinate and conduct all activity associated with collateral protection insurance:
  1. Process loss claims through insurance vendor;
  2. Process insurance charges and credits to Members’ accounts;
  3. Respond to Members’ inquiries regarding collateral protection insurance.

  • Carry out appropriate collection activity on previously charged-off accounts.

  • Carry out appropriate collection activity on ATM, NSF and other deposit-related losses incurred by the Credit Union.

  • Assist in any area as directed by Credit Union management.

  • Develop an understanding of Credit Union history, philosophy, organization, policies and operational procedures.

  • On a self-directed basis, continue to improve individual level of competency through training and certification on established educational programs.

  • Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: (a) can get along with coworkers or peers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; (b) perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and (c) respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent education and experience

Minimum of 1 year of experience in collections or similar work-related experience

General knowledge of the various collection laws

Strong organizational skills

Attention to detail

Professional demeanor

Effective communication skills

General computer skills
